Does the Dermapen Procedure Work in Removing Stretch Marks?

About two weeks ago I had my first Dermapen treatment performed by a local doctor. First let me say that as a thirty something year old mother of two, I have painfully watched as my slim figure has grown into a much more curvaceous one. Now don’t get me wrong, I love my new found curves, and so does my husband, but I do not love the stretch marks that have come with it. These stretch marks have caused me extreme pain, both emotionally and financially as I have tried what seems to be every cream, pill, or treatment that exists. I have deep stretch marks on my thighs that seem to grow with every passing year. During a family vacation, a friend of mine that works in a doctor’s office, noticed that I kept a sarong or long t-shirt on over my swimsuit at all times. After I expressed my disgust with my stretch marks she suggested that I try a new treatment called Dermapen. She explained that the treatment uses multiple microscopic needles to penetrate the surface layers of the skin. This is somehow supposed to help encourage collagen production and help you see visible results in about 4 weeks. I was very skeptical, but willing to try the procedure as I have tried everything else that I possibly could have.

After doing some research, I discovered that the Dermapen treatments are extremely popular in the UK and the procedure is growing in popularity in the United States. The procedure seemed relatively painless. As a woman of color, more drastic procedures like some laser treatments have risks that far outweigh the benefits. Dermapen claims to work well on all skin tones, proving to be a safe alternative. In addition, the procedure uses a disposable treatment applicator that comes in different sizes. This can be tailored to your specific skin type and skin condition.

So there I was, Dermapen Treatment number one. A local anesthesia was applied to the areas that were to be worked on. The numbing of my skin made the procedure relatively painless. I had a slight tinkling sensation, but that was all. Since the treatment works by stimulating collagen, the effects won’t be fully realized for a while, but I did notice immediate results. The areas most affected with stretch marks were softer, tighter, and the stretch marks were not as deep as before the treatment. The overall tone of my skin was also more even. One of the other great benefits I found is Dermapen’s line of micro-needling cosmeceuticals.  These can be used along with the treatment for greater absorbency. This allows for the treatments to work better than before. In addition, a few days after the treatment, my skin looked even better. I even decided to wear my bathing suit without a knee length sarong uncomfortably tied around my waste. Were my stretch marks still there? Yes, but they were far less visible and my skin was much more attractive than before. It is recommended by most doctors that you receive 5 to 6 treatments in order to receive optimal results, especially if you have deep scars and aging skin, but if the first treatment is any indication on the possibilities of drastically improving the appearance of my stretch marks then go ahead and schedule me for five more sessions!

You may be wondering what the cost of a procedure like this might be. Well, being that I have certainly dropped thousands of dollars on procedures and creams that have not worked, shelling out $200 dollars to $700 dollars seems minimal. The cost is more than reasonable considering the benefits the procedure can bring. With other treatments such as laser and Botox costing as much or more in some areas, you have very little to lose and much to gain.

The Dermapen treatment is one that anyone that has unsightly acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, or stretch marks should try. If you are skeptical and this treatment seems too good to be true, try it for yourself. There is very little downtime, it is relatively painless when done on most areas, and the benefits are many. Nearly every major city in the United States is now offering this revolutionary new procedure. Do your research and find a reputable doctor to perform your procedure. At a minimum, be prepared for tighter, smoother skin that looks better than before. The Dermapen procedure is definitely worth a try. Your skin will thank you.
