Does the Dermapen Procedure Work in Removing Stretch Marks?

About two weeks ago I had my first Dermapen treatment performed by a local doctor. First let me say that as a thirty something year old mother of two, I have painfully watched as my slim figure has grown into a much more curvaceous one. Now don’t get me wrong, I love my new found curves, and so does my husband, but I do not love the stretch marks that have come with it. These stretch marks have caused me extreme pain, both emotionally and financially as I have tried what seems to be every cream, pill, or treatment that exists. I have deep stretch marks on my thighs that seem to grow with every passing year. During a family vacation, a friend of mine that works in a doctor’s office, noticed that I kept a sarong or long t-shirt on over my swimsuit at all times. After I expressed my disgust with my stretch marks she suggested that I try a new treatment called Dermapen. She explained that the treatment uses multiple microscopic needles to penetrate the surface layers of the skin. This is somehow supposed to help encourage collagen production and help you see visible results in about 4 weeks. I was very skeptical, but willing to try the procedure as I have tried everything else that I possibly could have.

After doing some research, I discovered that the Dermapen treatments are extremely popular in the UK and the procedure is growing in popularity in the United States. The procedure seemed relatively painless. As a woman of color, more drastic procedures like some laser treatments have risks that far outweigh the benefits. Dermapen claims to work well on all skin tones, proving to be a safe alternative. In addition, the procedure uses a disposable treatment applicator that comes in different sizes. This can be tailored to your specific skin type and skin condition.

So there I was, Dermapen Treatment number one. A local anesthesia was applied to the areas that were to be worked on. The numbing of my skin made the procedure relatively painless. I had a slight tinkling sensation, but that was all. Since the treatment works by stimulating collagen, the effects won’t be fully realized for a while, but I did notice immediate results. The areas most affected with stretch marks were softer, tighter, and the stretch marks were not as deep as before the treatment. The overall tone of my skin was also more even. One of the other great benefits I found is Dermapen’s line of micro-needling cosmeceuticals.  These can be used along with the treatment for greater absorbency. This allows for the treatments to work better than before. In addition, a few days after the treatment, my skin looked even better. I even decided to wear my bathing suit without a knee length sarong uncomfortably tied around my waste. Were my stretch marks still there? Yes, but they were far less visible and my skin was much more attractive than before. It is recommended by most doctors that you receive 5 to 6 treatments in order to receive optimal results, especially if you have deep scars and aging skin, but if the first treatment is any indication on the possibilities of drastically improving the appearance of my stretch marks then go ahead and schedule me for five more sessions!

You may be wondering what the cost of a procedure like this might be. Well, being that I have certainly dropped thousands of dollars on procedures and creams that have not worked, shelling out $200 dollars to $700 dollars seems minimal. The cost is more than reasonable considering the benefits the procedure can bring. With other treatments such as laser and Botox costing as much or more in some areas, you have very little to lose and much to gain.

The Dermapen treatment is one that anyone that has unsightly acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, or stretch marks should try. If you are skeptical and this treatment seems too good to be true, try it for yourself. There is very little downtime, it is relatively painless when done on most areas, and the benefits are many. Nearly every major city in the United States is now offering this revolutionary new procedure. Do your research and find a reputable doctor to perform your procedure. At a minimum, be prepared for tighter, smoother skin that looks better than before. The Dermapen procedure is definitely worth a try. Your skin will thank you.

The Micro Needling Technology of Dermapen

Over the past few months, I have been severely stressed with work due to a large project that we’ve been working on for the expansion of our firm. As a result of accepting a new role as project manager role, I’ve had to sacrifice some sleep and get five hours at the most, even during weekends. It took some time before I had noticed (or rather people had noticed) that something was happening with my face. It appeared that wrinkles were starting to show and the worst part, some symptoms of Rosacea were appearing with noticeable redness.

Being alerted with what was happening to me, I made a visit to my dermatologist. I was planning to get another Derma-roller session. However, during this visit, my dermatologist had introduced me to the Dermapen, which, he claimed, is something new and “innovative”. I was skeptical about it, but who am I to argue with my doctor?

So, I decided to have a Dermapen session and was amazed with my experience. Since then, I have been looking forward to every treatment. Why did I love my experience? It’s much better than the Derma-roller in a many ways. First, it was much less painful. Second, the session ended quicker than I had expected. Lastly, and the best part, I was able to see immediate and satisfactory results. Now, my face has an absolutely glowing complexion and the wrinkles are completely gone!

I had to find out the magic behind the Dermapen technology. Unlike the Derma-roller, the micro needling effect of the Dermapen was truly groundbreaking to the point that it can greatly reduce epidermal damage. It uses an automated stamp-like system and the needles have adjustable lengths of .25 to 2.5 mm to penetrate effectively on various parts of your skin. In addition to that, the treatment recovery doesn’t take long at all. Furthermore, I didn’t have to worry about going back to the office because after the micro-needling Dermapen treatment, my skin looked much healthier and much more radiant.

Dermapen vs Derma Roller

Dermapen vs Derma Roller

To the makers of the Dermapen

I am a victim of atrophic acne scarring, and was always embarrassed to face society because of my acne scars. My doctor first introduced me to Dermaroller, a very successful technique for removing acne scars. The Dermaroller has surgical steel micro needles in a wheel that is rolled up and down the affected area four times, in three different directions.

I have to say that the results of this technique are really good as I experienced a tremendous reduction in the intensity of my acne scars. However the drawback was that the procedure is really painful and left my face red for four days after the procedure. In fact, I sometimes had to skip work as I found it rather embarrassing going to work with my overly red face.

Though I knew the Dermaroller was effective for treating my atrophic acne scarring, I dreaded facing my next treatment. So when my doctor asked me if I was willing to try the latest and less painful atrophic acne scarring technique,  Dermapen, that gives better results with less downtime, I was more than ready.

Dermapen generally uses the same principle as the Dermaroller; however instead of using a rolling action, the Dermapen just moves the needles in and out of the skin a 1,000 times per second. This is what avoids the rolling skin injury that occurs with the Dermaroller.

I was really elated after my Dermapen treatment as it was less painful. The procedure is comparatively short and easy. Moreover, the shorter downtime meant that I could return to work the next day, without a red face. In fact, my face felt much smoother and looked much better after my first Dermapen treatment.

I can honestly say that the results on my acne scars were much better with Dermapen than with Dermaroller.  With Dermapen being much less painful and having a shorter downtime, I no longer loathe my next Dermapen treatment. In fact, now I look forward to finally getting my acne scars behind me, thanks to Dermapen!
